Nasal Polyp Treatment

There are three main treatment options available for nasal polyp sufferers:

1. Surgical

  • Endoscopic Sinus Surgery is a procedure used to surgically remove blockages such as nasal polyps and tumors in the sinus cavities. These blockages cause sinusitis, pain, pressure and breathing problems. This type of surgery is performed using an endoscope.

  • Computer Image Guided Endoscopic Sinus Surgery is a procedure where STEALTH technology is used to guide surgical instruments for a more accurate sinus surgery.

  • Endoscopic Polypectomy is used to sever small isolated polyps. A small suction tool is then used to remove them completely from the sinus cavities or nasal passages.

  • External Sinus Surgery can be divided into two procedures:

    • The Caldwell-Luc procedure - During this procedure, the gum under the upper lip is cut open and a small piece of bone removed to allow the surgeon entry into the maxillary sinus cavity. This procedure is performed mainly to remove blockages in the maxillary sinus cavities and to enlarge the sinus cavity openings.

    • Open Frontal Sinus surgery - The surgeon will either make an incision behind the hairline on your forehead or under the eyebrow . A drill then passes through this incision and removes any inflammation or obstructions in the frontal sinuses. The doctor then completely closes the frontal sinus cavities from the nose by filling it with fat taken from the abdomen, and sutures the incision closed.
One of the drawbacks with this procedure, is that if you develop sinusitis in the future, your sinus cavities will be filled with fat making it difficult for a CT or MRI scan to develop an image of the frontal sinus cavity, and will therefore result in any future sinus infection becoming undetectable.

  • Laser Turbinate Reduction is performed with the use of a carbon dioxide laser. The laser is used inside the nose to decrease the size of inflamed turbinates. This inflammation may be caused by a deviated septum or by obstructions such as nasal polyps.

  • Radiofrequency Turbinate Reduction (Somnoplasty) is a procedure performed to treat chronically inflamed mucus membranes due to a constantly blocked/stuffy nasal passages or even nasal polyps. A pulse of radiofrequency energy is applied to the swollen turbinate causing enough injury to reduce it in size, unblocking the sinus cavities and nasal passages.

  • An otolaryngologist may use Balloon Sinuplasty to dilate blocked sinus openings, allowing the return of normal mucus drainage and sinus functioning.

    • During Sinuplasty, the doctor inserts the sinus catheter into the nostril to get to the affected sinus cavity.

The doctor then releases a sinus-guided catheter from the sinus catheter. The sinus-guided catheter enters the swollen/blocked ostium (sinus cavity opening) and then releases a balloon-catheter, guiding and positioning the balloon into the ostium where it slowly inflates. When the “balloon” inflates, it pushes the swollen/closed walls of the ostium open after which the balloon deflates. This allows blocked mucus to drain pass the balloon through the now open ostium.

Once the mucus has drained, the sinus catheter and balloon are both removed and a tube inserted into the now empty sinus cavity. A solution then squirts from the tube onto the sinus cavity walls cleaning them. This prevents further infection and helps to repair the mucus membrane.

The doctor then removes the tube with the sinus catheter leaving your sinuses decongested, clean, and infection free.

2. Medication

  • Immunotherapy is the usage of medicines to boost the immune systems response to a particular condition. Interferons are naturally produced by the body's immune cells to fight off infections. These interferon's also treat other conditions such as those found in the laryngeal (referring to or located in the larynx), papillomatosis (an over-growth of tissue in the mucus membranes), warts, tumors and certain types of hepatitis. During immunotherapy, drugs containing artificial Interferons are used to boost the immune cells and treat symptoms of the above conditions.

  • Topical (nasal sprays/drops) like corticosteroid nasal sprays are used to treat nasal polyps. Overusage of these sprays and drop may however lead to unwanted side effects such as nose bleeds, headaches, rebound congestion and sore throats.

  • Antihistamines are used together with antibiotic's to prevent allergies and treat sinus infections. These help relieve pain, pressure and discomfort but do not eliminate the underlying causes of nasal polyps.

  • Anti-inflammatory sprays, decongestants, inflammatory inhibitors and oral medications can be used to treat nasal polyps. All of these must be taken over a long period of time for short term relief.

  • Antifungal medications help relieve symptoms of chronic sinusitis caused by the immune systems unusual response to environmental fungus.

3. Homeopathic

  • The word Homeopathy is derived from two Greek words ‘homeo' meaning ‘similar' and ‘pathos' meaning ‘suffering'.

Homeopathy has been used for over 200 years and was first discovered by an eighteen-century German doctor named Samuel Christian Frederick Hahnemann. He discovered the key idea of “like cures like”.

When healthy people are given doses of a homeopathic remedy, the remedy causes symptoms similar to the diseases it is designed to treat. This principle is based on the concept that if an ill person consumes certain natural extracts in a diluted form it would induce symptoms of their particular disease. Those symptoms will then create a reaction and override the previous symptoms while the body naturally recovers from the induced reaction and builds up a resistance to it.

Homeopathy is categorized as alternative medicine as compared to conventional medicine. Alternative medicine is a preventative and restorative practice having laws that oppose almost everything understood in conventional medicine. Conventional medicine on the other hand relies on the anatomy, physiology and chemistry of science accounting for its use.

Homeopathy aims at treating the underlying causes while conventional medicines mainly rely on treating the person's physical symptoms.

Homeopathy therefore provides a natural way of treating illnesses.

Homeopathy is safe and unlikely to cause adverse reactions because it is so highly diluted. The weaker the dose used in the homeopathic substance, the more effective it becomes.

  • Homeopathic products are non addictive and can be taken over a long period of time with no unwanted unpleasantness.

  • SinusWars13 treats the underlying causes of your condition and not just the symptoms. This means that surgery and medication are no longer the only option for nasal polyp treatment. Not only that, but SinusWars13 is totally safe with no known side effects and is made from 100% natural ingredients.
