Foods for Nasal Polyps  
 
The below foods have been said to either help or hinder the development of Nasal Polyps. This is not a definite list, and certain foods will need to be identified by yourself as either Nasal Polyp causes of hinderers by a means of trial and error.

Bloodroot (Sanguinaria canadensis) – This herb is said to have an antibacterial and diuretic properties. It has also been found to work well on cancerous as well as non-cancerous growths such as Nasal Polyps.
Bloodroot has also been used to treat warts, dermatitis, eczema and other skin conditions.
One can create their own Bloodroot tea by cutting off 1 teaspoonful of the rhizome and adding this to boiling water (either on the stove or from the kettle).
Leave this solution to infuse for 10-15 minutes, thereafter strain the remaining bloodroot out of the solution.
This Bloodroot tea may be consumed three times a day.
Everyone loves sugary sweets, biscuits and chocolates, but did you know that sugar is one of the primary foods bacteria thrive on. Try limiting your intake of sugary items to dissuade bacterial growth.
A preventative treatment or pre and post Nasal Polyp surgery preparation can be made to treat Nasal Polyps.
You will need to mix 1 small cup or kettle warm water with a teaspoon or salt (Sodium Bicarbonate and Sodium Chloride).
This solution can be administered using a netti pot and is to be used twice daily, morning and night to help loosen trapped mucus and wash away any irritants.

Nasal polyp suffers should avoid any foods, herbs or chemicals which act as estrogens as these stimulate the production of mucus.
These types of foods include coffee, decaffeinated coffee, Liquorish, Clover, Red Clover tea and Alfalfa Sprouts.
One should try to have an allergy test performed when one suffers with Nasal Polyps, as eliminating allergy causing products from ones diet can contribute greatly to treating Nasal Polyps. Yeast, as these can cause increase asthma. Yeast can be found in bread, dough and even multivitamins.
Try a trial and error diet. This means that you should stop eating certain foods for a period of time (+/- 3 weeks), and during this time monitor you nasal polyps to identify if there has been any change.
Try limiting your intake of Dairy and Dairy containing products as these tend to stimulate mucus production.
 

Alcohol is a stimulant and may cause the body to increase its mucus production.

  Certain allergy causing foods may also promote nasal polyp formulation. These include shell fish, peanuts…
  Over consumption of wheat has been said to increase the incidence of asthma.
 
Smoking causes damage to the delicate cilia responsible for transporting mucus out of the nose as well as causes drying out of the nasal mucus membranes.
 
Pomegranate is believed to stimulate estrogen activity and can’t therefore increase one chances of developing post nasal drip.


What should you do after Nasal Polyp surgery:  
 
  • Nasal Swelling may persist for up to two weeks after surgery with blood tinged mucus discharge.
  • It is recommended that you not blow your nose for 2 weeks.
  • It is important that you follow your doctor's instructions perfectly.
  • A good humidifier should be placed in your room to promote healing.
  • Avoid smoking, coming into contact with fumes as well as irritants.
